Post-Operative Care After Implant Placement

Welcome to Dentures Today's comprehensive guide for post-operative care after dental implant placement. Ensuring proper care is vital for successful healing and long-term implant success.

Following these instructions can help you heal faster and reduce the risk of complications :
  1. CONTROLLING BLEEDING
To control bleeding, gently bite down on the gauze that your dentist placed over the surgical site for 30-45 minutes. If significant bleeding continues, a new gauze pack should be placed and firm pressure should be applied for one hour.
  2. REDUCING SWELLING AND DISCOMFORT
Reduce swelling and discomfort in the first 24 hours by applying an ice pack to the cheek near the surgical site for 10-20 minutes at a time. On the next days, apply warm compress to the site.
  3. REST AND AVOID STRENUOUS ACTIVITY
Limit physical activity during the first 24-48 hours after surgery. When you lie down, keep you heard elevated on a pillow.
  4. AVOID SMOKING
Smoking can delay healing and increase the risk of complications. Avoid smoking or using tobacco products for at least 3 days after the surgery.
  5. MAINTAINING ORAL HYGIENE
Avoid brushing the implant site for the first 24 hours after the implant placement. Afterward, gently brush the area with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Rinse your mouth with warm salt water (1 teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water) 2-3 times a day to maintain oral hygiene and promote healing. Avoid mouthwash containing alcohol.
  6. SOFT FOOD DIET FOR COMFORTABLE HEALING
Stick to soft foods, such as soup, pudding, or mashed potatoes, for the first few days after the implant placement. Avoid hard, crunchy, or spicy foods that can irritate the implant site.
  7. PAIN MANAGEMENT
Your dentist may prescribe pain medication to manage any discomfort after the surgery. Take it as prescribed, and do not exceed the recommended dose.
  8. FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENT
It is important to return for you follow-up visit, generally 1-2 weeks after surgery. Contact our office if you have questions or problems before that time.
